Design Challenges…Met

This was a high profile project with complicated spaces—multi-station teaching kitchens, a demonstration kitchen, museum area, wine tasting room, and dining area.  These spaces had decorative finishes and lighting, timber frame structure, and complicated roof lines. Our mission was to design and install the utilities without disrupting the finishes. We also assisted in the design of decorative lighting to complement the interior design.

The nine teaching kitchen stations each had kitchen exhaust hoods, requiring make-up air. Each station had a networked, ceiling mounted flat screen to assist with teaching. As the kitchens were for teaching purposes, the exhaust hoods had to be very quiet. The Owner commented after the project was completed how pleased he was with the noise output of the kitchen hoods.

We collaborated with the architect and owner to ensure the HVAC, kitchen equipment, structure, and millwork were properly designed and coordinated to facilitate construction.

We also provided input into the structural design to ensure that the mechanical and structure were coordinated, and could be installed as designed. We worked closely with the kitchen designer from Wegmans Food Markets, who assisted in the design of the kitchens and selection of the equipment.
